Parent Governor vacancies
Dear Parent/Carer,
I am writing to you to invite you to stand for election as a parent governor. In our school we have provision for five parent governors and there are currently two vacancies.
The governing body, with the Headteacher, has overall responsibility for running the school. Its role is to:
- Ensure the school has a clear vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- Hold the Headteacher to account for the school's educational performance; and
- Oversee the financial performance of the school and make sure money is well spent.
We are looking for governors with a range of different skills, perspectives and experiences and a commitment to improving the school. The governing body should reflect the diversity of the students at Acland Burghley, so we would particularly welcome applications from ethnic minorities and a broad range of backgrounds.
You don’t need special qualifications or prior experience in education to be an effective governor. We offer support, mentoring and training for new governors when they join. Being a governor involves spending some time in the school, attending around four meetings each term, reading the briefing documents, and completing some training. You must be a parent/carer with a child at the school on 22 September 2025.
You can find out more about being a parent governor in the attached FAQ document. If you are thinking of applying but would like a conversation with an existing governor first, please email Edward Elliott (co-opted governor) on edwardlamelliot@gmail.com who would be happy to organise a time to speak over the phone or in person.
The 1.3 Parent Governor Election Procedure document below summarises the circumstances under which someone cannot serve as a governor (e.g. parents/carers who have paid employment in the school for more than 500 hours a year or who are elected members of the Local Authority). Also below is a 1.2 Frequently Asked Questions sheet.
If you would like to stand for election, please complete the online nomination form by clicking this link: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/p0m6NEw2Ay
If you prefer to nominate by paper form, please collect one from the school reception. You can then submit your nomination by placing it in our nominations box in the school reception, post your nomination form to the school for the attention of Kat Miller, or scan and email it to kmiller@aclandburghley.camden.sch.uk
Nominations close at 10am on Monday 22 September 2025. You must also include a short personal statement to support your nomination, maximum 250 words.
If more than two people stand, there will be an election by secret ballot. Voting papers will be sent to all families with details of the voting process.
Yours faithfully,
Kat Miller
Director of Operations and Returning Officer
