Year 9
Dear Families
We hope that you and your family had an enjoyable summer.
As a Year Team, we are really proud of the growth the students have shown since Y7 and we are excited to continue this development into their last year of KS3.
Last academic year students were not only focused on their academic endeavours but also on charitable endeavours, students had taken part in the following charitable activities;
- Visiting our local care homes at Wellesley Road and Maitland Park;
- Tutor groups creating gift boxes for families in need at Christmas;
- Hosting an afternoon tea party for local community members and care home residents;
- Raising awareness and funds for a London homeless charity through bake sales and Pyjama Day.
We were able to raise and contribute over £200 for a London based homeless charity – Single Homeless Project.
In Y9, our priority is to foster students’ curiosity for a range of subjects and provide an informed understanding of Acland Burghley School’s KS4 options and pathways process.
We will do this through:
- Ownership of learning through development of study skills;
- Understanding of their own progress and goal setting moving forward;
- Informed options choices for Y10;
- Embracing extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities;
- Mindfulness and well-being.
We are continuing to encourage students to take ownership of their attendance, punctuality and the way they conduct themselves in school; we expect them to model these standards through self-regulation and personal responsibility.
Our Year Team’s goal is to continue to develop a group of high-achieving, well-rounded and resilient learners who are prepared for the wider world – Creating Excellence Together.
This is continuing to be achieved through a constant focus on students...
- Being ready to learn, through excellent attendance and punctuality, correct equipment, and sustained effort and focus in lessons.
- Maintaining a calm and purposeful environment, through the way students conduct themselves around school and in the classroom.
- Creating a culture of kindness and respect, through their interactions with their peers, teachers, and other members of the school community.
We will continue to do this by ensuring high-quality teaching and support for all our learners. We will provide the students with opportunities to build upon their interpersonal skills through a wide range of extra-curricular clubs and activities.
Your child will be supported this academic year by dedicated and passionate form tutors who have been working closely with your child since their start in Y7. They will the first point of contact who can support you and your child with any day-to-day issues or concerns or to discuss your child’s progress.
My expectations still remain high as every student can reach their full potential at Acland Burghley School. I expect them to come to school every day prepared for learning and to maintain high standards for attendance and punctuality.
I am excited in starting this new academic year and look forward to working in partnership with you all.
