Year 11

As the Year Team Lead, I am delighted to welcome you back to Acland Burghley for an important and transformative year ahead in the 2024-25 academic year. Y11 marks the culmination of your hard work and dedication throughout KS3 and KS4, and I am thrilled to join you on this journey as we strive for excellence together.

Reflecting on the fantastic progress made in KS3 and KS4, our focus this year is on ensuring a smooth transition into the critical stages of Y11. This period is pivotal as it sets the stage for your GCSE exams and your future pathways post-16. With the end of Y10 mock exams and Work Experience opportunities, it's essential that we maintain a strong commitment to both academic success and personal development.

In the coming months, we will emphasise the importance of resilience, community, and self-regulation. As you prepare for your GCSE exams, our goals are to:

  • Provide support and guidance: We will assist you in navigating your mock exams, ensuring you are well-prepared and confident.
  • Encourage development of study skills: Focusing on effective study habits and the completion of all homework assignments is crucial for your success.
  • Facilitate goal setting and self-assessment: Regular goal setting and self-assessment will help track your progress and enhance learning outcomes.
  • Promote extra-curricular participation: Engaging in extra-curricular and enrichment activities will complement your classroom learning and contribute to your overall growth.
  • Emphasise punctuality and attendance: Consistent attendance and punctuality are key to achieving academic success, and we will work together to uphold these standards.

Our objective is to nurture highly achieving, well-rounded, and resilient learners equipped with the skills to excel. I am fortunate to work alongside a group of dedicated and passionate tutors who will support you throughout this journey. Your tutor is your first point of contact for day-to-day issues and monitoring your progress. For subject-specific queries or concerns, please reach out to the respective Head of Department or Faculty. Should you have broader concerns or wish to discuss your progress in detail, feel free to contact me via phone or email.

Let’s make this final year of KS4 a time of growth, achievement, and preparation for the exciting challenges that lie ahead. I look forward to working closely with both students and parents to ensure a successful and fulfilling academic year.

Best regards,

Conor O’Malley
