Message from Year Team Leader
I would like to praise Y11 for the standards they have set since returning from the summer break, their attitude and focus has been excellent and bodes very well for the rest of the year.
Above is a list of all the ongoing revision sessions available to Y11 students to help them prepare for their mock exams and GCSEs this year. Hard copies have been given to students as well.
Note that some sessions are targeted at specific students who will be contacted directly by the subject teachers. If your child has particular concerns around a specific subject but has not been invited to a revision session, they are welcome to drop into those sessions to discuss their concerns with the subject teacher.
English and Maths revision takes place almost every morning and is available to all students. Clearly it is not the expectation that students attend every single session, however you may find it beneficial to discuss with your child and decide on a specified day(s) of the week that they will attend.
Understandably the revision sessions always increase in popularity the closer we get to mock exams and GCSEs. I would like to take this opportunity to reiterate the importance of consistent routines and a ‘little and often’ approach to revision. A student attending morning maths revision once per week from now until June will be in a much better place than a student that decides to attend every single session on offer a month before their exam. This is because of the benefit they will see in the classroom throughout the year as they feel increasingly confident with the subject.
Please discuss the options available with your child and establish a timetable that they will be able to stick to for the duration of the year. We have provided a blank weekly timetable should you wish to use it.
We will be handing out another ‘Revision Guide’ booklet at the upcoming Parent Information Evening on 22 September. If you would like additional resources to support your child with their revision, I would recommend the CGP “How to Revise for GCSE: Study Skills and Revision Planner”. Copies of subject revision guides will also be available to purchase at the upcoming parent information evening.
Finally, as the year progresses, additional revision sessions will be put on where the need arises, and also during the holidays. These will be communicated in due course.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s progress in a subject, please reach out to the subject teacher in the first instance, and for more general queries, reach out to your child’s tutor, myself, or Mr Owen.
