Anti-bullying
Bullying is not tolerated at Acland Burghley School. Our approach to bullying, and our anti-bullying policy, is set out in our Behaviour Policy (section 16 and Appendix D). It outlines how we:
- Prevent bullying from happening;
- Act to stop it;
- Use sanctions with students who have bullied others.
If a student or parent/carer has any concerns about bullying, they should immediately contact the Year Team Leader, and the Key Stage Director of Learning. These staff will take your concerns seriously, and will work with you and others to find a solution.
The behaviour policy contains lots of helpful advice for students, staff and families about combatting bullying. For further advice, try Kidscape on this link:

Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) reporting tool
If students or parents have any concerns that a child is a victim of exploitation, they can report this to the CEOP using the button below.
As well as investigating the alleged crime, CEOP follow up with support and education for the young person affected. CEOP also have some excellent resources for families, to enable them to support their children with safe internet use.
Diabetes
Every year around 700 children in the UK become seriously unwell because the signs of type 1 diabetes are missed. Knowing the signs can reduce that risk and stop children from becoming so unwell. See below for the poster from Diabetes UK explaining the symptoms of the 4 Ts.

Online Safety
How to make sure your child stays safe online
Resource 1: How to start the conversation
It is difficult to start having conversations with your child around their use of social media or devices so this resource includes guidance to support any adult to establish an open and respectful conversation about using the internet and technology safely and positively. The template on the second page also helps record what has been discussed.
Resource 2: For parents and carers of young people with SEND
The following links are on advice for parents and carers of young people with SEND covering the following issues;
Resource 3: Parental controls and privacy settings
Below is a resource sheet for parents and carers that has a list of useful websites and a step-by-step guide on how to set up parental controls and privacy settings. The resource also explains how to report harmful content. We have also included a leaflet specifically tailored for foster carers and adoptive parents.
Resource 4: Gaming
We know that many of our students have virtual friends and communicate with those across the country/globe through gaming as a form of pastime. This resource has conversation starters, family activities and links to other organisations and resources for further support to ensure their online relationships are safe: https://www.childnet.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/All-fun-and-games-Parents-and-Carers.zip
